A worm farm is less about complicated equipment and more about creating stable conditions: air, moisture, shade, bedding and regular food.

Choose the right home

Use a ventilated container with good drainage and keep it out of direct sun. Red wigglers prefer moderate temperatures and darkness.

Settle the colony

  1. Prepare damp bedding with the texture of a wrung-out sponge.
  2. Add the entire populated tray, including its established bedding.
  3. Leave the worms undisturbed for several days before feeding heavily.

Feed and observe

  1. Add small amounts of chopped fruit and vegetable scraps.
  2. Bury food beneath bedding and wait until most is eaten before adding more.
  3. If the bin smells, reduce food and improve airflow.
